Ways to Make Money in the Gig Economy

The secret’s out: there’s more than one way to make money these days. While the lemonade stand days are (likely) over (although we don’t judge), you can still pull off a respectable income from the variety of different jobs outside the 9-to-5 realm—otherwise known as the gig economy.

Rover.com sponsored this post. Click here for more information on my policies.

Driven by a carpe diem economic philosophy, the gig economy is marked by freelance assignments, contracts and pop-up work. Plus, it leverages skills many people already have in new ways (case in point: turn your dog obsession into cash with help from the pup-loving folks at Rover.com

In other words, it’s income that’s totally up to you to make—and that’s pretty cool. Here are a few accessible resources you didn’t know you could tap into. Whether you want to pad your 9-5 income or stitch together several opportunities, check out one (or a few) of these sweet options and become a gig-economy master.

Looking to make some extra money? Need a side hustle? Check out this list of ways to make money in the gig economy!

For when your (lack of a) budget is giving you paws

Rover.com gives you your pup fix and pads your checking account at the same time. Simply create a profile highlighting why you want to be a pet sitter; once approved, get recommendations from friends, and prospective clients will contact you via Rover in no time.

Watch their sweet furry friends during weekends away, holidays, single-night stays and even one-off walks and doggy daycare. You can completely customize your dog sitting preferences, too—from setting your own daily rates, to specifying only the breeds you’re comfortable with and blocking out days you’re unavailable.

Prefer a playground to an office?

Childcare is a fantastic option for earning a little extra green, and the industry has a consistent demand for sitters. From word of mouth to online networks,  you can find clients and promote your chops as a either a full-time nanny or date-night sitter.

Dearly beloved, I’m here for the extra cash

Harness your ability to blend humor, heart, and flawless delivery by becoming ordained. Wedding officiants can pull in up to $300 per ceremony. The process does involve wading through some red tape depending on local and state laws, but can be worth it once you get rolling in the always-hopping wedding circuit.

Turn the little things into marketable art

Do you have beautiful handwriting? Can you tie cool knots? Are you a whiz with a wood saw? The economy of handmade goods is thriving and Etsy.com is its mecca. Stake your claim and make an account—you never know who’s looking to buy precisely what you’re selling.

Great read, always looking for extra ways to make cash around the office. I just wanted to share something I’ve been doing recently. I run an office and have noticed that unused toner was piling up in storage. Looked into returning but that was no good. Tried out the site http://www.tonerconnect.net/ and was impressed. They had quick service and that payout was nice.
