Craft Ideas to Sell
I’ll bet you’ll never guess what my degree is in. I’ll give you a clue…paper, thread, and leather are the main supplies. Any guesses?
I got a hand bookbinding degree from the North Bennet Street School in Boston MA in 2007.
It was the best experience ever. I got to spend 8 hours a day making books by hand. We learned how to make our own tools, how to pare leather, use vellum and tons of other fun things.
I started collecting the equipment I would need to open my own bindery before I had kids. Once my first baby came, it all got packed away. There is not a ton of room in our house so I had nowhere to leave projects while I was working on them.
Some days I miss working with my hands. It was a quiet, meditative activity that ended in a beautiful item. There is something so satisfying about holding a book that you made yourself. Really, any item you make yourself has that power.
